lock picking technique

Postby CycloneJack » 4 Jun 2004 17:44

Hello all- I find myself able to pick some kinds of locks easier by using a half-diamond or snake, setting the back pins first, then lightly raking the last few located in the front. I am sure this technique is already known & has a name or purpose, could anyone tell me what it is called? and why it works so well.

Thanks again.

Nope no name for it in particular... just *another* way of picking a lock.

Snapping is when you use the snap gun I'm assuming... lol. Picking a lock in the way your describing won't necisarily make it easier- it's just another way to do it. If it works for you that's great.

Actually I think there was a reference to "snapping" a rake out of a lock in those little books that come with some pick sets...if memory serves me correct it defined as pushing all pins up all the way, ripping the pick out of the lock at light speed and trying to turn the plug at just the right time. So by that definition it should tell you what kind of technique it is, and what kind of book it is. Bear in mind theres a "chapter" in those books about jimmying with an old car jack.

Oh, you've read that book have you?

I can't for the life of me remember what it was called either, but it wasn't the greatest book if I remember correctly.

Snapping is when you depress all the pins in a lock without any torque at all. then you quickly pull out the pick that is depressing the pins and apply sudden torque at the same time hoping to bind pins - specifically, security pins.
I got it to work a few times. Though it's less relaible than raking.
