Hi.
I picked my first lock today. I had bought this "Keychain Lockpick Pro" a while back and thought it would come in handy. I just thought of it and said well let's give it a try. I couldn't seem to find my tension wrench so I found a tut on YouTube on how to make one using a paperclip and it worked fine!
So I tried, and in about 30 secs on my FIRST TIME ever, the lock cylinder was TURNING! I was sooo amazed, so I tried again, this time it took even less time, maybe 20 seconds.
I felt like I was one of the best lock pickers lol when for the 3rd time, I went and got my camera to record myself and it took me 12 measly seconds!
This feeling is truly one of the best, the part that amazed me though was that I had never watched even ONE tutorial on how to pick a lock, just kinda used a double bump rake pick I believe and a paperclip and wallah!
Just though I'd share this, btw I did this on my front door. I have a Kwikset lock.. incase you want to know.

P.S. I thought it's kinda cool cause I'm 13 and all..

First off Im really glad to see you are able to open locks with your pick set, and Im sure you will be able to find a weath of information on this site and get many helpful responses from everyone here...but I would just like to let you know we think it is bad practice to pick locks that are in use because it is possible to mess up locks so they no longer work...so try to find some other locks to practice on and enjoy your stay and dont be afraid to ask.....
thought you had to be 14 to join this site BTW???

Thanks. And I agree, I was reading around and I read a lot repinning which I'm guessing is maybe fixing/replacing the pins in a lock. At first I didn't think that I'd really be able to do it with a keychain lockpick set and a paperclick (since I lost my tension wrench), but I was really amazed today.
What lock do you suggest next?
Thanks.

well depends on what you are looking to spend, another kwikset doorknob lock runs about $15 while a kwikset double sided deadbolt cost around $20 and it gives you two locks....
you can also look into some masterlocks for around $4-$7 they are ok to practice on.
once you get better and know how locks and pickin work you can look into schlages, they can be tricky if you dont know whats going on though.

If you don't have much cash for locks, just wait until the end of the school year, and when your friends are in a end of year frenzy, use persuasion to get your friends that have keyed padlocks to give the locks to you. lol. Just an idea.

Lol thanks for the ideas guys. I may go buy some, but first I want to be able to pick most the locks in my house.
I have one on my front door that I picked for the first time yesterday. One on my garage door, master bedroom, and my dad's closet. They're all kwikset key locks.
I can pick my front door, but the other ones are giving me trouble. Any ideas?
I have the following picks on my KeyChain Lockpick Pro:
Car Pick
Double Bump Rake Pick
Feeler Pick
Jiggler Pick
Elliptical Ball Pick
Also, I used the double bump rake to pick my front door. I didn't know what I was doing really so I kinda just jiggled around and it worked. What method should I use with what pick?
Thanks.

The best idea is to stop picking the locks on your house. You have already been advised of this. You are new to lockpicking and can cause damage to the locks making them useless, and it may not shop up right away. They could also break trapping you and your family inside the house. I know you are new and excited about picking locks but you really need to leave the locks on your house alone.
Get some practice locks and use those. Please do not repost asking for advice on picking the locks that secure your home and family. You have been given the only advice you will get on them.

Car Pick- that is for the advanced forums, cant discuss it here
Double Bump Rake Pick- these are good for raking, and for wafer locks
Feeler Pick - these are good for feeling whats in a lock and to SPP
Jiggler Pick -for raking and jiggling
Elliptical Ball Pick- for wafer locks, and can be used to rake other locks.
