well, after filing down on a small knife for 2 nights,i decided
"hell,im gonna pick my backdoor with a paperclip cause im getting tired of this"
i used a steakknife for a tension, but since the paperclip wasnt filed down or anything, after a bit of raking i was left with 1 or 2 pins, and somehow i got lucky with just shoving it in there and over and over that i unlocked it.With renewed hope i decided to go finish my pick.It wasnt much of a pick, more than it was a thin, flat peice of steel, with no shape at the tip
so then i went to work on my door, after getting it open a few times my brother and his friend came to watch me,and i then figured out, after openening it something is wrong with my lock. After i turn it,i am able to pull out the plug for some reason or another, and when i put it back in and turned it back i realized i put it in backwards, and now the pins were on the top. Now,being 16 and having my parents take away my southord jackknife set thinking i would just be up to no good,i just thought "How am i gonna get this fixed.Because i had never been able to pick a lock with the pins on top.But eventually, about 3 10 minute sessions of trying to open it i got it,and then put it back the right way.
once i can get a ride im going to go to home depot and get one of the spinning devices in pyros video and a blade, and some hacksaws and go to work on my own set
Does anyone know why my lock is able to be pulled out?
(didnt know what section to put this in,so admins feel free to move)

Dep;ends on what find of lock it is. Could be the C-Ring that holds the cylinder in is not there. It really depends on what kind of lock it is though.

I'm gonna have to say that you most definently look to have picked the control shear line or the lock was not properly installed. Now I want to rush off and buy a kwikset titan just to see if this is normal.
I can imagine how I would have freaked if I had done that to my lock....I can't remember who told me this rule but it goes like this "Don't practice on locks your going to need later."

well,i know it could do it,i had a real set a while back(jackknife) but what freaked me out was putting it in backwards, then trying to rake it open with the pins on top, which i had never done before, heh

From my understanding, the Kwikset removeable core locks don't have 2 sheer lines such as a Best SFIC, they use a Control key that is cut with the same bitting, however on some models the key has a notch cut in the bottom of it close to the shoulder... and other models use a longer key. It is a good possibility that his lock is of the notch variety, where the cylinder will come out if there is nothing where the notch should be (this is just a guess) and since there is nothing there it comes out...
I'd imagine it could be a little different on the titans, but it is probably pretty close to the same...
I wish the world was flat like the old days, and I could travel just by folding the map.

no but if you were to but a notch at a certain depth at the bottom of the key it would. one suggestion would be to get a copy of your key and then dremel a 3/16th's inch deep notch on the spare key just at the point after it is in the cylinder and continue the notch until the last half inch of hte lock and you can probably duplicate this core removal with a key.

To find out where to make the notch, you could rough up the bottom of the key and impression it. Wiggle the key and look for marks at the bottom and put the notch there! I was wondering about his myself and found a PDF someplace that mentioned a control key.
Might want to keep some tweezers, a screwdriver and plug follower handy as well!

The Kwikset on my front door does the same thing. Before I got some practice locks I used to do it intentionally to make the lock a bit more portable.
