Hi, I am new to this site so I apolgize if I use wrong terminology.
When i was a kid my father gave me an S&G 8088 combo padlock and it has served me well over the past 35 years. Of course I have the combination but I would like to chage it. Problem is I don't have the "key" that would allow me to do so. Does anyone know where I might find a key for this lock? If I can't get one I can still use the lock as it is, but as I said I would like to change the combo.
Thanks!

Hi there,
The first thing we'll need is a photo of the lock not attached to anything, both opened and closed would be best.
This helps everyone know the lock belongs to you.

Having recently bought a bunch of changeable combination locks (including some 8077's) on ebay, I have two recommendations: - Look on ebay for people selling these locks and see if they'll sell you just the key - Talk to a locksmith and order one. I've had no problems going in and buying a change tool - it's not really much good unless I can open the lock, so why not sell me one?

You can also just search on eBay for the key itself, many people sell just those.

datagram, cryptocat, nothumbs and others: thanks for your reply's. it makes no sense to me either to not sell me just the change key; if I can't get it open what good is the key?? nevertheless, i am attaching pictures to show that i do indeed own this lock. Thanks all! lock.jpg031.jpg lock.jpg032.jpg i hope the pictures open...i've never uploaded to this site before.....

I've got one of those locks and I bought my change key from a local locksmith. I see that model for sale on eBay from time to time, and often with a change key. You should have no issues finding a vendor to sell you one. You might try a local locksmith, they can still order one from S&G if they don't have one in stock.

I don't have any experience with 8088's, but I can tell your that for a S&G safe, the "change key" is basically a glorified pin, which varies wildly in price. I've seen them for 5 bucks and 25 bucks on ebay. So, unless you get a great price, don't buy the first key you see without shopping around first.

The change key for that lock is an "odd size" .a " normal " S&G change key will not fit.. as another poster suggested... check with your local locksmith. I think that the correct change key is also available on the "KEDEX" change key set. although that set might be a bit out of your expected price range
