are you telling me you picked a safe lock to steal the contents? and now you're running around picking every lock you can get to? stop now. this site is probably not for you. If you like picking locks as an interesting hobby, then stop picking locks that are in use and stop picking locks that don't belong to you. Buy some locks to practice on, don't run around the house/neighborhood/campus/office picking locks, we take this hobby seriously, and its bad enough people already think lockpicking is a shady act. If you like picking locks as a criminal career, you will not be welcome to this site. That's not what we do here. Keep it legal. Squelchtone

I'm not sure that's what he meant, but don't go around trying to pick every lock you find. Go pick up some locks to practice on.

I guess I missed some bits of his message. Probably due to the spelling errors. mstrlckmya$$ wrote:i just picked my first lock, was getting no where at first, then looked at a pic of wafers and then had it open in 5 sec, granded it was a easy safe lock, but i picked it open and locked, at first i only wanted the contence inside, im now running around picking every lock i can get to, its adicting

assumption is the devels play thing, by asuming that i was breaking into a safe to steal the contence and that im ilegaly picking locks gives insight to your true use of lock picking as well, not that its any of your business but everyone seams to be assuming incompitent a$$ holes, i lost my safe key, was stoked i got it open so picked it shut again, got bord with that and started practicing on masterlocks, my front door and any other locking door in MY house, sounds realy illegal doesnt it? funny, every post is followed by 50 people assuming the writer is picking illegaly, ever hurd of constructive critisusum? your right this web sight is not for me, i prefer to suround my self with people that ask questions, not point fingers.

Lol, Your sentry box was your first kill? That's funny actually. Now you see, ppl should buy better safes! So if you want some practice locks then check the buy, sell, trade forum. I have a TON of KIK and Schlage IC cylinders I'm about to dump. I also am about to get rid of a ton of mortise cylinders. Keep your eyes peeled, you'll find something worth picking up and practicing with. Try reading the site rules first though, people are jumpy around here since the hobby already has a social stigma attached to it. Don't pick locks that are in use in any way, shape or form though. And try to have fun and play well with others. Peace.
*witty lock-related comment here!*

oh please, dont use phycho analysis on us. I never pick other people's locks unless they say, hey can you open this for me please. We offer solid advice. Check your original post and read it from our perspective. It sounds like some teenager high on power. And since we only pick for fun, saying you only want the contents of a safe sounds really dodgy. Next time say hey, I lost my key, but I found this site, and learned some stuff and I managed to open it, and that's pretty cool. I'm not gonna argue with you on this. We try to uphold high standards so that this can be a fun and legitimate hobby, because we know that it only takes a couple bad apples doing something stupid that makes the news, and then the media would have a field day demonizing our community. The reason I said not to go running around picking locks in use was two fold, 1 yes, to make sure you dont open doors that arent your own, but since you said they are your own then sure, go for it, but be warned that when picking locks that are installed and locks you rely upon for your safety and the security of your possessions, when you're a new picker, you don't always have a full understanding of everything going on inside, so thing can and often do go wrong. It would suck if you're picking your front door and get the lock stuck in the open position, and have to spend half the evening taking it apart learning what went wrong. We say this because it has all happened in the past, and we would like to save new users from certain common pitfalls. Have a nice day. Squelchtone

No, it just sounds stupid. Your original post didn't have any of this information.

VERY light tension is the key to the american 5200s. I breeze through them in under a minute now. I've acquired mine through my unit, finding a TON of them cut over in Iraq and just in collecting in general. They're good locks, very good for training on security pins if you never dealt with them before.

haha Anyway squelchtone was at most making sure the essence of this site is made clear, And if we are using psychology the format of your response being so touchy only further insinuates a guilty conscience, Lets be honest what need is there for you to get angry? no one here knows you, its only one of your posts so its not like you have a black mark on your name....and if you feel like you have just register under another name. next time you might want to keep in mind to explain yourself in a more relaxed manner. and remember the members here are just trying to protect a forum which they love. Your first post did sound a bit dodgy but you have explained yourself so its all fine. I think we should all just leave it as it is and accept that there may be a miscommunication here. Might i suggest this topic is locked or somehow gotten back on subject?

Personally, after being away for almost 6 months and coming back, not much has changed. You're the n00b here, not us. It's your attitude and the reflection there of that cause the greatest concerns among the people, the veterans of this site. When in doubt, hell no, we're not going to give out the information. Responsible picking means just that, it would be irresponsible if everyone here encouraged the type of picking you have demonstrated and that clearly is NOT what this site is about.
BTW, before someone else says it, I'LL SAY IT, get a new name as seeing it offends me. If that requires you to create a new account, then do it, and create a new attitude while you're in the process. I think it's hilarious that you'd even try to badmouth squelchtone in another thread. Thank you, come again!
