Ive practiced picking on one of my doors at home, but once i pick it it only turns half way (about 90 degrees) and then the door handle wont turn as if still locked. Its a normal tumble lock and the other side is just a thing where u turn it 90 degrees to lock/unlock the handle. Any ideas? Its my bathroom door if that helps.. a golden door knob.

You may be picking it to the locked position?
It is hard to say with out knowing the brand/keyway.
It is recommended that you do not practice on a lock that is in use. If it breaks, it can be a real pain in the butt. You should buy a padlock or a cheapie lock from the hardware store or flea market to practice on.

+1 It could however also just need more force to open possibly because of a spring etc, get a small screwdriver insert it in the keyway and gently apply more tension if it doesn't move at all then stop you want the same amount of force you would apply if you were using a key in that lock.

First off, stop picking locks that you are using!
Second, you're probably picking it to the locked position. Try picking it in the other direction.

Thanks for the help i think u guys are right. i unlocked it and picked it clockwise (like i had done before) and the door locked haha. but for some reason i cant do the other way around. if i lock the door i cant pick it anti clockwise to unlock it and the pins only set when i use ALOT of tension. It doesnt feel right, ive picked lots of other locks before and this one is really weird (only for going anti-clockwise). and ill stop picking my home locks right after i find out how this is done http://www.happynews.com/living/homerep ... r-knob.htmlooks almost exactly like this one.

That looks like a schlage in the picture;
I have had plenty of locks like so that I have had incredible difficulty with picking it in one direction, while it goes fairly easy in the opposite.
Are you picking it pin by pin? If so, do you know what order you are setting the pins in? Try setting them in the reverse order while using decent tension.

You can just use a rubber band as a plug spinner, but I recommend you stop practicing on that one, and just buy a lock from the hardware store to practice on.

I'm experiencing a similar issue with a master#1 at the moment. It had been outside for quite some time and is extremely rusted and has a good deal of spring resistance. I've picked it clockwise and counter-clockwise and the plug will not rotate past the 60 degree point either direction. I have lubricated it well and also tried picking with the shackle pushed down, to no avail. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Vandelay Are you in the States? I'm intrigued. Why would you have a knob on the bathroom door with a key turn on the outside? Cheers...

Yes... don't pick old rusty locks, its not worth breaking your picks in them. If it's been outside for even a few months, let alone during the winter.. forgetaboutit.. buy a new lock for picking practice. btw, does the key to this rusty one one work just fine in both directions? Squelchtone

I don't have the key, I found it in an alley-way in someones trash, along with a dozen or so dead-bolts. However, I have tried bumping it and always hit the same barrier, so to speak.

I've had a similar problem. While building a practice station I put an old door knob with a schlage keyway in. I don't have the key but I can pick it both ways, doesn't seem to matter, still stays stuck. Please tell us if you figure it out.
