Bump key

Postby Mathias » 15 Sep 2011 0:06

I will just try and make this short because there isn't a reason to make this long. I tried to make a bump key and it doesn't seem to work to well so I was wondering if the key wasn't made right or if I just don't know the right way to bump a lock. Thanks.

@Mathias:

The spacing looks shitty and the bittings look like they do not allow the pin to seat properly...

What did you use as a reference for making this bump key ?

You need to have the deepest possible valid cuts on the key in the proper shape, not almost 90 degree angles like you have -- you are leaving out an important width for allowing the pin to seat on the key...

Yeah I thought I did a bad job. And all I had was google to look up pictures but a lot of them were different so it was hard to tell what I should do. Is there a way to still make a bump key out of that key now or is it trash?

Just make yourself a snapper pick and you can bump a lot of locks regardless of keyway.

a snapper weighs as much as a bicycle spoke, (thats what I make the out of) and it fits all those keyways.
