i managed to make me a lockpick out of the flexible part of the dvd and open a lock about 4 or 5 times with it. then it ripped... didn't really break, just sorta ripped apart. here is the aftermath.

I don't understand what you made there. What do you mean by the flexible part of the dvd?

dvd's have two layers of plastic, one brittle (holds the data) and one flexible (clear and helps reduce scratches on playing side). i snapped the dvd in half and used scissors and a multitool to make a small hook out of the clear flexible layer of plastic. the arch upward is the handle. works better for the way i hold picks.

So you could learn how to hold lock picks properly, or build your own homemade lock picks out of the proper materials...

DVD plastic just won't hold up to being rubbed against metal inside lock cylinders, it isn't hard enough...

i lack proper materials here for making lockpicks. i would have to steal to acquire wiper inserts, and i haven't found a suitable other material yet. i also thought that it was best to hold a pick however it was comfortable and gave you a secure grip. when i get back to the states, i'll remake this design out of a proper material, but i hate the huge handles on the southord picks. and i call figuring out the design of handle i want to make a success :) if it doesn't work, i'll try something else. as a side note, i have tiny hands. it makes holding a "factory standard" long thick pick handle a pain. for reference: my glove size in the military is small. most women wear medium.

You would have to steal to acquire wiper inserts? Really? Just ask around at local garages/oil change places; at least one won't mind parting with a few old wipers.

i'm in kuwait, not allowed off of buehring. back home i have a few sets of old wipers laying in the back of my dodge from being too lazy to throw them away. our mechanics don't love me like they used to. they won't help me anymore after the 5th humvee i did massive damage to (compression issue in the engine resulting from a fluid leak caused by a belt cutting a radiator return line while going down the interstate)... anyway, long story short, i'm not allowed in the motorpool and they have talked about revoking my military license. i would have to steal it from a qrf humvee as they leave them sitting outside of the motorpool 24/7. and since i'm not stealing with the hobby, i'm not stealing for it. or i would have more locks by now (the ones on gates aren't rusty and clogged with sand) :)
