picked my first dimple

Postby andrex66 » 19 Oct 2011 15:40

Hello mates, nothing hi-security or similar, but a good result for me anyway, since it's the first dimple lock I have ever picked.
It's a 6-pin CISA 0E301 I bought yesterday,I had to make a dimple pick since I hadn't any, and then learning how to use it

the top pins:

the drivers are normal, just one spool in second position.

yes,it's homebrew,part of a "serie":

I started from one of these rectangular metal clips and made two halves, like in this pic:

These clips come from a broken CPU cooler.
After sanding and reducing the tip to the desired size,I bent the opposite side in an "U" shape.
The "body" of the pick is an empty marker in which I forced a piece of plastic.
Then I heated the "U" side of the pick and forced it down the marker, the heat melts the plastic and the pick stays in place nicely.
A bit of plastic went in the top part of the marker,so that when I put the heat shrinking tube on it and heated it, the plastic melted and the pick was centered (as seen on the first pick from the left in the first picture)

After using them for some time I was ready to blame the tools, but I found that i was using too much tension as usual .
They allowed me to open a Cisa Astral too (10 pins).
hope I made the process clear, English isn't my native language!

cheers,
Andrea
