SPP Picking ABUS 65/40

Postby Abacus » 30 Oct 2011 12:23

Hi there guys,

AT LAST! I can pick my ABUS 65/40 in 10 out of 10 tries.

I have been sitting with this lock for almost every day for about two months now trying to figure it out, and had opened it by SSP several times before really without exactly knowing how I did it...

Remember this is a padlock rated with LEVEL 5 security amongs padlocks (6 is the highest).

The way it works on my padlock is the following.

1. push the pin No1 so you will get a false setting on the rest (the first pin is serrated, and the rest are spools). For viewing the pins inside take a look at this artice: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=46784

2. Now gently push the pin No3 until you get a feedback and a small push on the last pin No5. Now the pins are in binding position. The next thing is to take care of the spool pins.

3. Gently release a fraction of the torque applied , push Pin3 until you can feel that the pin stack is no longer binding. If you release to much tension on the wrench, the pins falls and you will have to start all over again.

4. Repeat step 3 on Pin No2.

5. Lastly do the same on pin No5 and the lock will open!

This sequence works on my lock and I have not tried it on another lock with a different keying.

Anyway Hope this will help.

Happy Picking!

Hmmmm. I made a few typing errors.

The sequence I posted 2 minutes ago is not right.
Following is the right sequence:

1. push the pin No1

2. Now gently push the pin No4 until you get a feedback and a small push on the last pin No5.

Sorry about the last post, was to eager to post my discovery :-)

Nice that you've cracked your lock!

The bit about pin number 1 is generally correct, as this is always the first pin to deal with in my experience, not being a mushroom pin.

However, the order to approach the other 4 pins will depend on a number of factors like pin length and manufacturing tolerances. Most certainly I have a number of Abus padlocks which required a different sequence of pin setting.

So, don't get fixated on the order of pin setting in your particular lock; just understand the technique principles you have developed.

Maybe you should buy another of the same lock to experience the differences.

Hi Keyring, and many thanks for your comment.

Yes of course I will buy me a brand new ABUS 65/40 and master it to (maybe I will buy two).

I am aware of the fact the different pin lenghts, tolerances etc, and that a standard sequence (for this particular model) for dealing with the pins is not possible.

It is of course different for each lock but the method is the same (dealing with serrated-, and spool pins)

I was just so happy that I cracket this one because it had given me a bit of a headache because I was missing the big picture with the last pin, I had to post it right away :-)

I have seen a couple of videos of guys that are able to rake this model open, but I have not been able to do that and prefer doing it the right way by SPP picking.

But, ok I have not been picking more than two months now and with this craftmanship, practice makes perfect is the dominating factor!
