Hello there , im just wondering if anyone knows the specifics of this lock. I have one i got off an old barn door and im am pretty sure it has some sort of security pins, but im not sure. Any info you guys can find will be much apreciated. (I've done a google but to no avail)

All americans have some type of security pins. usually serrated bottom pins and spools and/or serrated top pins. It will be a challenge to pick. Good luck

Do you have a key for this lock? If you do you can take a few of the pins out to make it easier to pick. Try it with just two pins for now.

i tried an american lock last night, and finally realized something, that every time i had pins up, and then put the fourth and last one up, one of the other three come down. i quit after that.

but i'm going to go at it with a shim.

That means there are spools in there that must be set first. tou can tell there spools by pushing them up. you can feel a big jump when they are set.

Cerberus, like zeke implys, don't even bother with a shim you'll just be wasting it.

Not necessarily. When shimming a lock with serrated pins, you mustn't put constant pressure on the shim. Instead carefully test the pins with a hook while always moving the shim back and forth until it enters deeper than usual. Then follow up with the next pin but try not to move it back far enough to lose the other pin.This way you'll avoid shredding it.

I was under the impression that he was going to try and shim the deadlock on the hasp of the lock. You can shim the cylinder itself after removing it from the lock body and some practice.

i was, but realized i would have been foolish to try it. and i can't do what you said, pick pick, cause the cylinder is protected.
