i'm having a problem with regular picking

i set up a practice 5 pin tumbler and took all the pins out but one and picked that and then started addin pins untill i could pick all five in 15 seconds. Now heres the problem. when ever i try to pick a lock that is installed (on the door) i cant pick it at all. its like i cant feel the pins where they are so i don't know where to feel and lift. are there any suggestions or should i just use a snap gun and be cheap. i would like to be able to pick locks with a feeler pick and a torque wrench. i can rake with a feeler pick too.

If you want to use a snap gun, go ahead. You have to keep in mind, though, that your door lock may be a better brand, or newer, and have tighter tolerances. You also lose a lot of feel when you're not holding the lock in your hands. Just keep trying, and you'll get it.

I understand, from reading your other posts, that you're just interested in being able to get past the locks. You'll probably find that a pick gun will still be challenging to use, even if you buy one instead of making one out of a clothes hanger (you've asked about these on other posts).
My advice is to stick with you lock pick set for the time being until you've got the hang of that. Just remember that lock picking is challenging--if it weren't, there'd be no point in the LP101 forum. The challenge is also what makes it a fun hobby.
As for your practice lock, you're probably dealing with a much easier lock than you have installed on your door. Locks vary in complexity and difficulty. Even a single spool/mushroom/serrated pin can make a lock several times harder. Just keep at it and don't get discouraged. There aren't any (good) short-cuts. You're on the right track, though!
