I've been learning to crack safes for a few months now and looking at all kinds of different tools avail to help. I found using a thru-wall mic works really well in amplifying the clicks of a gate and then needed something to increase the resolution of the dial to see when the gate contacts change.
I tried a large paper protractor with 0-100 written on it and a pointer attached to the dial but it wasn't very accurate in how I was using it.

I built a digital version to use. Still working out some bugs though...

What are others using when manually manipulating a dial. I've done searches and I can't really find much online that I think would help.
I'm sure the pros dont need anything after years of doing it....
