Help picking this lock? (From a vintage "Park-o-meter&q

Postby DJ-Studd » 12 Nov 2003 22:01

Gday all, I'm having a bit of trouble with this lock. It is on a vintage "Park-o-meter" and I am needing to get it open in order to fix the mechinism.

Image
^^The above image is of the lock in it's dormant state^^

Image
^^The above image is of the lock when I push the only visible pin across. The pin on the otherside, which was otherwise invisible, now comes out into the open.^^

What is the best way to go about picking this?

Appreciate any help I can get!
Cheers,

this is something varjeal could answer ALOT better. but....
here i go

That is just a circle pin as far as i can tell

ok
look at it like this
this is your pin
This side is the part you are pushing down D this is the side you need to clear the sheer line.
So, basically, there is no pins, its just a big assembly that is hooked together. You would pick it the same way though I believe, although I am not sure.

sorry i can't explain better, i think in a really odd way

Well...I'll try to help, and hopefully it's not different than the standard variety.

I'm thinking this lock may possibly be a bi-directional wafer lock. This is where a double sided tension wrench can come in handy. The tension wrench is shaped like a "Y" with the top forked portion placed in the keyway. You'll need to rake the wafers on both sides while applying tension clockwise.
If you have one a small diamond or better yet, a half ball pick should work well.

At the very worst this may be a normal wafer lock which you would rake towards the exposed wafer side only. A few good rakes should open this lock easily.

Lubricate this lock well with a silicon/teflon lubricant before picking.
With your pick, before you even attempt picking, place it as far into the lock as possible and press downward. Slowly draw it outward and count the clicks...this will tell you how many wafers are in the lock..there should be 5.

I hope this isn't too confusing. :?
