picking a u-lock for my bicycle

Postby rho » 21 Jul 2005 12:11

I know this sounds stupid but I lost the key to my bikelock. Now I'm trying to pick it and I don't have the slightest clue what I am doing. Can anybody give me tips on how to go about picking a U-Lock? I can go check the brand name too if that information would help.

thanks!

Pin-tumbler?
Tubular?
Disc lock?

sticky that wont work for a bike lock. fileing cabinets are wafer locks and bike locks are either pin tumbler or tubular locks. i would also like to know your meathods also.

Methods for which type? Pin, disc, or tubular? There are many types of bike locks around. There are even ones with the payphone-type locks (cross keyway, like the head of a phillips screwdriver). There are a lot of lockies and professionals on this site, they probably know your 'methods'. So share with us and we'll find out. :)

If you lost the key then the lock is useless now. I'm assuming its a tubular type lock. Just cut it off.

Where is the lock? Did you lock it to a rack and then lose the key?

Hi Stickypicky

well this method is kind of intense..... you will be popping these open in mere seconds, I noticed that you are from Aurtralia which is perfect cos you guys have a Tool Store chain there that seels the perfect tool for these.

I am gonna try figure out how to send you a message on this thing and give it to you that way...... try keep it under your hat cos with this method it really makes these locks useless

Hmmmm....PM sent, then reply posted 3 hours later, stating these mysterious tools had been obtained and the opportunity taken to practice for two hours last night???
"Last night" implies that the poster has slept before posting...

This conversation seems strange too:
