I'm finally successfully picking my schlage with four spools. I just wanted to thank everyone for great advice on how spools work. It's a good feeling to be able to defeat even the most expensive deadbolts available at the hardware store.

It took heavier tension than I initially expected--well, to begin it took light tension and then heavier when setting the last few pins.

Nice one.

Now get it down to under 7 minutes, and come compete in the Dutch Open next year. That's a test of skill!

hehe nice!
When I bought a padlock with spools, I successfully opened it without even getting the "difficulty" of the pins. It was only after with single pin picking...

Try a profile pick on that bolt and see what happens - you're looking at about 30 seconds to three minutes....

I have some American padlock cylinders with three serrated spools, two serrated drivers, and five serrated lower pins. Do you think you could handle that, zekeo?

Congrats zekeo. And this may not be true for everyone but after learning how to bypass locks with spool drivers, pretty much any lock they sell at home depot or lowes or whatever will no longer pose a problem for you. Its a great feeling of personal empowerment, kinda like when you picked your very first lock.

It's nice to pick a lock that has specifically inserted features to prevent picking :D

What helped me the most with spool pins was quicklocks video about spool pins in a Yale I believe. I had read about doing it that way but a picture is worth a thousand words! I can pick my Medeco cylinders with 5 pins (no sidebar of course!!!) using spools in #1, #3 & #5. Not real fast, still takes me 15 minutes minimum, most of the time 20 or more, but at least I can do it now. Not sure if you could call the Medeco pins true spools because they are almost shaped like a vase, not a letter "I", but by letting off on the tension and slowly letting the plug rotate backwards I can get past them now. I have tried with spools in #2 & #4 and the results are about the same, 15 minutes or so. All 4 of the cylinders I have had spool pins in 2 & 4 when I got them from ebay and I just mix pins to add extras. I can get it open with 2 pin sets, no spools and the sidebar but adding a third pin set right now makes it impossible for me, maybe someday!!! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Great job zekeo!

I dont know if I am doing something wrong, but it doesnt take me anywhere near 7 minutes to pick my schlage with 4 security pins and a regular. I havent tried a medico but my schlage is no problem anymore. did I do something wierd or just hit a good feeling for it?

I don't know about the Medeco in question, but just hearing the name makes me cringe. Cracking our Schlage "Top Shelf" deadbolt is nothing......
That is the great thing about this, there is soooo much more learning to do!!!! :D

It doesn't take me 7min either. Just a few, and sometimes faster.

Good to know that I am not just some lockpicking freak then  . and there was a tinge of dry sarcasm in my remark about the medico.
