Padlock with Sidebar?

Postby tshock » 17 Aug 2005 18:13

I need help on a 5 pin club brand padlock. This should be easy to open, but its not. I believe it has a sidebar. From what i can gather, a sidebar is somthing that prevents the pins from setting. (Please correct me if I am wrong) It seems that no matter how much torq i apply, the pins wont set. Can anyone give me some insight onto what might be happening?

There are so many club padlocks it's not funny. Please tell us what model it is, and some more information about the lock and we can help. :)

 No sidebar there my friend, as your picture
and description show, it also has 4 pins. I think
you can ignore the "twin" levers comment unless
your goal is to shim it, which my be a bit tighter.
The 50mm does have 5-pins however, but still
no sidebar.

Now, the company does boast pry resistance,
(twin lever) and security pins (most likely spools).
Look at your lock-50mm-5 pin, 40mm-4pin, and
take a deep breath. What you seem to have is
a decently made padlock, with a 3-4 security pins
at best.

Have a bit of confidence, lighten your tension,
in a day or two you'll get it

The twin levers thing threw me for a minute and i had no idea what was going on. I regained my composure and picked it twice in ten minutes by raking. For some reason, when i try to single pin pick it the pins dont set.

what is a serrated pin?

light tension

Postby raimundo » 18 Aug 2005 10:30

the most important thing that cracky said was light tension and what I would add would be a quick light pass of the halfdiamond pick, or a drop of light machine oil (3 in 1)
