I am cutting my own various bump keys and I am wondering, do most common door locks (ie yale, schlage, kwikset) have same key position and spacing (as in, pin distance from tip/shoulder and mm between consecutive pins)? Additionally, do keys of the same length generally have the same number of pins? My schlage door keys have 5, do common yale and kwikset locks have no more than 5 as well for same key length? And same spacing regardless of number of pins?
Thanks.
p.s. I have cut a perfectly working schlage 5 pin bump key, and will have to get round to the hardware store to pick up a kwikset lock. Should i copy the cut to my yale/kwikset blanks?
