The top one looks ok for the most part but the spacings may need to be widened out a little bit more with a small round file. Kwikset bottom pins have flat broad tips so if the valleys arn't spaced out properly it may not work.

The bottom bump key looks like it won't work at all though.
If a lock is a puzzle, then its key is the complete picture

The top one is close to resembling a bump key, the bottom one leaves a lot to be desired and from looking at it, i would say that its more likely to cause a bit of damage to the pins in the lock rather than cause the ricochet effect needed to bump open a lock, this is an opinion and not an attack on you m8.
the peak closest to the key head on your first one is a lot smaller than the rest this may have an effect on bumping, try using a square file to make the cuts in the key, this should tidy up the angles of the peaks and give you a better chance of making a key that will succeed, then as Eyes_Only states, use a small round file to widen the valley of each cut.

ok thanks. yea i knew the second one did not look very good. it was mainly due to the way it started out, because the valleys were so small that i had very little to work with in the first place. i'll try to tidy it up and tell you how it goes. thanks again

Top One: This one looks pretty good, like the dude above said... more spacing, also try not to file lower then the indention (4th cut over) and last but not least i like to round the points slightly so they dont mess up my lock :wink:

Bottom One: no comment :D

i use a tri-file and try my best to keep the cuts as uniform as possible.

thought i would add this on to the already great advice above, good luck!

for kwikset it might because their 6 pin keys have offset top and bottom shoulders. The 5 pin locks use the top shoulder and the 6 pin locks use the bottom shoulder so a 6 pin key lines up for both.

Generally a 6 pin bump key won't work in a 5 pin lock because there is no room for it to go further into the lock. The cap or back of the lock will stop.

kw1 = standard kwikset keyblank (ilco#: 1176)
kw5 = 6-pin kwikset keyblank (ilco#: a1176 ?? i don't recall exactly.)
kw10 = kwikset "titan" keyblank (ilco#: a1176st)

more often than not, a titan keyblank will work in applications that normally take a kw1. the main difference between a kw10 and a kw5 keyblank are the offset stops. on a titan, the upper stop is forward and the lower stop is back.

I have made bump keys with both schlage and kwikset using the six pin keys. They work in five pin locks, you just can't use the regular quik bumping method. You have to use the 1-pin pullback or brute force? method(pull out 2-3 pins before hitting in). It takes longer to use, but the point is it will work. its probably quicker to just make two keys.
