It's sort of a grey area, though I've seen light discussion on it in the normal section, but it scantly matters, since it is very hard to bump most high security locks.

We can't give much info on specific high security locks outside the advanced section, but we can talk in generalizations. The only similar tools I can think of are items like the Medeco Code Setting keys found in the "Open In 30 Seconds" book. You can theoretically make similar tools for other high security locks, but you may have to do some of your own trial and error with key blanks, since there's little literature on it to my knowledge. There may be more in the advanced section here, but I haven't been a member long enough to get in there yet.

In general, it's probably most efficient to get a notched hook and get used to working the chisel pins, while having enough patience to deal with serrated and other annoying pin types.

I'm not the best or most knowledgeable by any means, but that's my two bits on it. I don't think there are many easy ways through high security locks without a plug puller or other destructive tools. If someone can show me to be wrong, I would be very impressed and thankful.

Actually, the tolerances in high security locks lend themselves to making bumping easier. What's hard is getting factory blanks or having machines to take a working change key and drill the dimples or cuts neeeded in an accurate fashion in order to make a bump key.

Here's an old paper from 2005 from the folks at TOOOL.nl

Very informative. Thanks, Squelchtone! I learn something new almost every day here. :D I love this place. I had always just assumed it was a lost cause to worry with bumping them.

I tried making some ASSA Twin keys into bump keys and I cut them on a key machine using depth and space keys and they still were not 1 whack and open. Took some effort, but then again, Ive never been great at bumping, even on a Schlage I still end up hitting my thumb more often then I open a lock.

I've been looking at locks for the new office and no one in the area carries the MT5+, they only have the interactive..

I saw a video of the interactive+ being bumped and had some thoughts on how you could in theory use the same design to create a bump proof lock.

since the interactive pin (when in place) travels above the keyway, I can see how it prevents copying of the key (without the interactive pin in a copy).

now.. how about this. if the top pin which lines up with the interactive pin. if it never actually enters into the keyway, there would be no way to transfer the energy from the bumped key to the pin to make it raise..

hence a bump proof lock...

I dont have the lock in front of me (yet) but I suspect that the pin in the interactive + does enter the keyway, so you can "bump" the lock.. but I was just considering the limits of the design and if you could in fact have it as an anti-bump design..

A little late to the game here, but the method of not allowing the driver pin enter the plug leaving a gap between the key pin and driver pin is how Master lock's BumpStop system works.

only bumping video I ever made was of an EVVA DPS.
