Bumpkey Tutorial By MasteR (typo edited by Varjeal)

I just made up a quick tut on how to make a bumpkey. I did this with with my Dremel, and I have to say this was easier than with a file..

What you will need:

A Rotary tool ( Dremel )
A Pack of Cut-off Disks
A key Blank (..Of your choice )
A cold drink

First step, ( whatever that's in red, means it needs to be cut )
Take your original key, and mark where the cuts are like in this picture.

Next,

Cut a " line " of about 1-2mm thick down where the marks of the cuts from the original key are like so,

This is what it would be supposed to look like after the cuts are made,

Now,

Cut a straight line thru all the peaks, try to make the line in the middle of the peaks like this,

This is what it is going to look like after the cuts are made,

Next,

Cut diagonal lines on the peaks like so..

Do this on the other side of the peak also..

This is what it should look like after the cuts have been made to the peaks, the bumpkey is almost finished.

Now you wanna be carful here. You need to remove a little bit of metal on the head, and a little bit of metal on the shoulder. I find that taking off 5mm on the shoulder works, and 0.2-0.3mm on the head works ok, but this could work better your own way, this is just my way

So I hope this will help all the people that are willing to make some bumpkeys, and think they can't. Well here's another great method for making some, and it works !

Not with my method.. If you are to shaky to make one, don't even try you might cut a finger off..

Now, I'm new to this whole "bumkeying" haha...bumpkeying, is it just a key that you put in the lock and move it around kind of like a pick and hope it opens the lock?

Typically how many times would you expect to be able to use a bumpkey before it stops working?

it is used to gain access, not to use repetitively. will damage a lock fast... another of my Tri-circles lies dead somewhere in my shed as a result
my lock withstood 2 hours before it died

if you're talking about the bumpkey itself I reckon it would last a good while, really depends what you use to tap it in the lock...

but yeah nice guide... well done
