Heh, it appears that you can get anything past the US Court system....IF you have enough money for a ' Dream Team ' of lawyers, i.e. OJ, M. Jackson, etc.

Cool...are you taking orders yet? Have a bunch ready for shipping? How about an optional laser sight for those of us with poor aim?

Thank you. Your link to the adjustable staple gun looks like a real nice one at a good price. I've had really good luck with just my cheapo staple gun bumping open every lock that I've tried it on, usually on the first snap to the key. The real problem is that the blade in the staple gun that pushes out each staple one at a time really bashes and cuts the back of the bump key very quickly. I found that by using a plastic tie inserted in the front of the staple gun right where the blade is will cushion the blow but it also cuts the plastic tie off very quickly. The best method is using a thin strip of metal instead of the plastic tie inserted in the staple magazine and sticking out the front a short way. With the metal as a shield to stop the blade from cutting the back of your bump key you get a better transfer of energy as the plastic tie will absorb some of the striking energy. Some type of a hard metal shield attached to the back of your bump key would probably work too but would be difficult to hold it in place.

I am making going to cut or grind the backside of the key flat, then silcer solder a nice peice of harder metal on the back. Any suggestions on the metal I should use? I was thinking a peice of hacksaw blade or maybe stainless.
You could also cut the backside of the key to fit the staple gun better....

WOW, my grammar was horrible! Too much coffee this morning, and too little sleep!
Also, I was gonna dip the end of the key in some of that platic tool coating stuff, to help prevent damage to the lock when bumping.
I will post a pic shortly.

man i really need to get into the whole bumpkey thing but i dont like the idea of having many differnet types of keys that only can fit into one lock, unless there are a lot of similar locks around

Actually you only need ONE type of key to fit into several types of locks, because there are similar types of locks that use the same type of keyway. The advantage of bumping lies in speed, not the actual art of the pin pick. In my business of getting into vacant homes for mortgage companys that have re-possessed them I rely on the speed of bumping over the art of the pick. Time is money, as 'they' say.

Exactly right. If you want speed and are good at bumping then use it. I can bump most schlage, kwikset, american, master locks in under 45 seconds. Padlocks are the hardest for me to bump, I do attempt to bump the locks though since it can save me a few minutes from my weekend. Most of the locks above can be picked in under one minute, but some can be a pain in any of those keyways. Some LSDA locks have such heavy spring tension and loose tolerances that they are better to be picked. Some masters and brinks locks are the same way. One must practice and learn the best methods on each individual lock.
For the best book out there on high security locks and their operation, take a look at amazon.com for High-Security Mechanical Locks An Encyclopedic Reference. Written by our very own site member Greyman! A true 5 Star read!!

The hammer I am using is screwdriver looking thing. It has a spring shaft and will accept a 3/8 socket on the end. I put some of the thick electrical tape around the handle and use the handle to hit my key. If you need a pic, I will try to make that happen.
Everythang is chikin' but tha bill....

There are people on this board that have already gone through all the trouble of calculating the right amount of weight, dimensions, etc.

ME!!
I have gone through the strenuous trouble of purchasing a perfectly calculated bump tool which (assuming i havn't just anoyed Omikron) is coming through the post to me.
I think i will call it a 'KEbump'
No i can't spell, and yes i'm dyslexic.
