It is the deepest cuts on all cut positions, just like with every bump key. What is the deepest cut, I hear you asking next? It is the cut that when inserted in the lock doesn't lift the pin at all. Look at the keyway, figure out the approximate height based on the wardings and find the corresponding depth from your key. Cut/file to that point.

ok that was kind of helpful but I'm still stumped.

Am I supposed to get the lock or cant you just tell from the key shape how deep the cut is supposed to go?

You see that middle cut (the deep one), that's about how deep all the cuts need to be (a little deeper, so they alsmost touch that ridge that's above that cut).

Jaakko gave you the basic info. Estimate a bottom cut using the warding, under cut it a hair with the proper spacing. If that doesn't make sense then you need to do more searching on the site. Getting an outline of a bump key wouldn't work anyway, the measurements need to be more precise than that. What lock is the bump key for?

It seems you're new here so I would suggest doing a search and reading through older threads careful to understand how it works. This site is very useful if you know how to use it. We could easily use paint and "show" you how to do it but honestly you won't learn anything form it. Making and using a bump key is really simple if you understand the concept. Take your time reading here. I've learned this site is different from other forums in the sense that it's a good thing when older threads get brought back where other forums start new threads all the time on old topics. Welcome to the forums!

Actually it would be great if you could paint it for me!!

I still am stumped on the concept; the older posts are also kind of confusing, I mean I get the basic concept but I just dont want to waste time doing the wrong key..

I was wondering if this is a 6 pin or 5 pin key?

Anyway this is what I thought...

6 pin and it reminds me of the way a DOM bow looks, but this lock is pin tumber not dimple like the DOM IX.

It would be difficult to paint you where you have to cut.. The process of making a bump key is more accurate than that. I don't know what brand and model of key and lock you have, and every lock manufacturer uses different depths and spaces for the bitting cuts in the key. Without knowing which keyblank that is, it's hard to just draw a line in Paint and say, cut here, it will work perfect guaranteed. We need more info.

What lock does this key operate? If squelchtone can't ID it, then your SOL if you can't say what it locks up. At least picture or describe the other side of the key for us.

Here's the other side of the key. It's a Yale key. Y2 or Y3 maybe?

And that is the end of this thread. DO NOT try to make a key and bump the lock on your door. You WILL ruin it, and if you don't make the key right you will not be able to remove it. If you want to attempt this it's up to you. Just don't ask us for help.

It's also apparent from the lock setup and the Do Not Duplicate on the key that you do not own this lock. Are you prepared to explain to the person who owns it why you need a locksmith?
