Pinning interchangeable cores

Postby spike2013 » 9 Sep 2013 10:44

Hi,

I am interested in learning more about pinning interchangeable cores. Many resources can be found about simple pinning but when you step into the depths of more complex areas such as this, then there is scarce information.
A generic guide would be great. Any suggestions of material that I can read?

Thanks.

What kind of interchangeable cores are you interested in? There are SFICs (Best, Falcon, Arrow etc.) which are all the same and there are LFICs (Medeco, Yale, Sargent etc) which are all different depending on the maker.

Currently I would be interested in Best. Overall though I would like to have a broad knowledge.

Here is the long winded reply for pinning SFICs.

Here is a useful pdf:

PM me and I can email you a better one that I can't seem to find on the web anymore. Glad I saved it. It was in a thread on the subject at one point, but the link doesn't work. It was called "keynotes Apr.08" or something like that. Just PM me, I have used it to pin SFIC cores and it really helped with my overall knowledge. A lot!

Before you blow lots of money on this, read the afore-mentioned threads and you can find information on how to make your own pinning block out of wood and some other less costly alternatives than buying everything you need to repin sfic. It is quite an expensive financial outlay to do, I recommend exploring LFIC first because you don't need any special equipment. You can even make your change keys out of normal blanks with shaved down shoulders, and all of the pins are the same diameter/size as normal locks that you might find on your door and probably already have followers/pin kits for, or can at least buy them cheaply and readily at home depot if you don't have an account with a locksmith supply.
