The cylinder in a pbs has6 pins, exactly like the external. This is true of any kite marked night latches. The older Yale no. 1 and union draw back locks only had 3 pins in the internal cylinder.

If you buy 2 Yale 6 pin 1109 cylinders already keyed alike you can easily swap these into the pbs with just a no.2 pozidrive screwdriver.

Is it a 1109 cylinder that is in the PBS to start with, lots of sites spec an X5 cylinder, this all means nothing to me but its all about being insurance compliant and after all this effort I need it to have the correct cylinders in the locks. Just want them to be keyed alike, it seriously can't be this difficult, can it?

It isn't difficult for someone who can do it.

If you can't, the only option is to pay.

You either have to pay the more expensive option in the links already, do some more google searching or buy 2 at the price you can get, take them straight to a locksmith before fitting and ask him to rekey one to fit the other but I have no idea what each locksmith would charge, at a rough guestimate, I would say £40 but it's a guess.

And no, it is not an 1109 cylinder as they are only 5 pin. The newer PBS's are X5 blanks.

If you do decide to pull it apart, take pictures after every step and layout the pieces in the order you pulled them out of the lock.. then if you get stuck you have something to refer to. Will make the job a lot easier.
