Baldwin single cylinder deadbolt. Part missing?

Postby cheerIO » 22 Aug 2014 23:24

Hello All,

I have this deadbolt and I need some help as I think I am missing a part.

Here is everything I have.

I think the guts go together like this.

Then this plate goes on to secure it to the door and gives the mounting holes for the face plate.

My question is here. Now I have the inside faceplate and the bolt actuator. I think there must be something between this and the tailpiece cause I can't figure out why the actuator handle wouldn't just fall off. Is there some kind of tube that presses on the handle to hold it to the faceplate?

Anyone know what I am missing here? Thanks for the help.

Don't I see a snap ring above the splines of the handle? If so, that could hold it.

I thought about that. But the grove doesn't seem deep enough to hold a snap ring.

Usually it's a kind of washer made of springy steel with teeth on the inside circumference. It would be pushed down on the shaft with just enough slop left to allow it to turn.

I understand, thanks for the help. I'll try to find something like that in the junk drawer.
