Old safe drawer lock. Help required.

Hi,

My dad lost the keys the two drawers in his safe a long time ago. One was unlocked, one was locked.

He passed away earlier this year. We were not too bothered about getting in to the locked one straight away, but recently its been bugging me and we would like to open it up.

Does anybody have any tips or suggestions? Id like to get into it myself rather than have a professional do it.

Im a complete beginner so would like to know if this is something I could learn pretty easily or is it a very technical lock.

Id be grateful for recommendations of tools I would need too.

Im not bothered about breaking the lock if that is an option.

Hopefully these links to the photos of the open drawer work and will how you the lock I want to open.

Hello and thanks for your question.

Chances are the key to both drawers was the same, and I take it you do not have the keys at all; one drawer was unlocked but the other is locked, is that correct? You could take the drawer to a local locksmith and have them take the lock apart and file a new key to match the levers inside that lock, then try the new key on the locked drawer and if you're lucky, it should open.

As for picking it, it may not be the easiest project to undertake if you've never picked a lock before, so the learning curve would be steep.

hope this helps,
