Need help with a Key

Postby 01oharv » 9 Nov 2015 23:52

Hey,
I need help identifying a key. I had a company install the lock a few years ago but I don't know what kind of lock it is but I know it's to my business door. I have the key. Tried going to the hardware store but they gave me a SC20 key... Waste of my time and money.

Please can someone help!

Thanks

Do you just want to know the keyway? It looks like some type of Schlage to me, but I can't really tell without seeing the profile. Why not just take it to economy/acme lock?

True, but I want to try this on my own... I guess I went to the hardware store.

Looks to me like the hardware store did pretty good with their sc-20 key, so what's the problem?

Yes their is a problem. The key goes in but does not turn... Maybe it is not cut right or I need to file a part down (I think).

I included a picture of what the hardware store did. Can you tell the difference (Besides the shape of the key)

Also I put the key in and tried to get a impression, I ended up getting two different marks near the shoulder of the key.

Looks like the shoulders don't line up. Maybe try pulling it out a little and jiggling it. It looks like you will need a new key cut. If you take it back, the hardware store would probably screw it up again. :x

I'll try "working" the lock and key before I take it back.

You could take it apart & file the heck outta the cylinder & pins

SC-20 keys can be difficult to cut well

Locking this since there is no valid reason for you to post two threads on the same subject.
