I think I accidentally changed my combination

Postby AJ97725 » 6 Jul 2016 10:09

Hi all,

So a few nights ago, I unlocked by bike. It had been raining and as I fiddled with the padlock to get it off and into my pocket, I have a suspicion that I may have inadvertently also changed the lock combination.

For the life of me, I now cannot unlock this lock and it's driving me insane. I can remember the original combination, but it's just not working.

The lock is a Master Lock 643D (I think) and it's currently attached to my bike lock cable, which is wrapped around my handlebars.

Right now I've brought the bike into my room with me and I've spent the past hour and a half trying all sorts of methods to get it unlocked.

Can anyone help? I would rather not have to cut off this set and buy a whole new lot, if I can avoid it.

pics of the bike and lock in your room before we can offer help or we're gonna assume you're a bike thief.

hey nice Lenovo, I think that's the model I have!

The only trick I know on that model padlock is to just start at 0000 and dial 0001, try shackle, 0002, try shackle, .. 9999, try shackle. you can try to see with a flashlight if you can see red or green colored plastic inside the combination wheels, one of the sides of the inner circle will be a flat spot or indentation while the others are round..

There's a good how to floating around here somewhere, hang on.

EDIT: ok not the lock I was thinking about, but yours may have similar internal mechanism as this luggage lock: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=15243

hope that helps, sorry, no quick or easy trick that *I* know of.

youtube the model number, you may get more helpful tips that way as well.

Thank you.

I'm guesstimating the model of the lock itself, as it's actually one I picked up from work a few years back.

I'm trying your suggestion, but starting at 9999 and working my way backward. I can't believe I've done something so stupid.

I've been trying the 'tension' technique for a while now, but all I've managed to ascertain is that it's rough on the fingertips and that the last 2 numbers are probably 4 and 7, which incidentally are the last two digits of the code I was using.

That's the first video I found! Unfortunately I don't seem to possess the required skill to pull it off :(

Thanks again though.
