AJACO 30mm brass padlock NO. 702

Postby MiPo » 18 Jan 2017 13:08

Dear lock experts,

Today I made a great trade at the local buyback center. They had a beautiful lock in use and gave it to me in exchange.
I searched the internet back and forth about ajaco locks, but nothing. Would be great if someone could tell me the company that made this lock, history, country, age of the lock, etc. Thanks a lot in advance (by the way, an easy pick - only standard pins)

Pretty sure it was made in Taiwan. I had some that looked similar, they stamped them with all sorts of names.

I once made a list of mechanical lock companies that made or currently make padlocks, camlocks, rim and mortise cylinders, knobs, deadbolts, and made sure to include companies from all over the world and from the last 100 years because while brands like Hurd and Slaymaker just don't exist any more at the store, but they do to collectors.

The list contained 175 of the "well known" lock manufacturers, but I do not recall this brand being on that list. Just some random Asian company as kwoswalt99 said, I would guess the age is probably 1980's

@Squelchtone / kwoswalt99: Thank you both for the answer. I like this lock's appearance although it's probably made in Asia. The quality is much better than the cheap Chinese padlocks you can buy today. To be honest I originally thought it was maybe Italian, but the fact that nothing is available on the internet about AJACO and your opinion makes my believe it's arbitrarily stamped.
@Squelchtone: Is this list available somewhere to be accessed by the public? Thank you.
