I'm going to have to agree with jimu57 and point out that this is a new feature from Ford. I think this press release came around the same time they started making their trucks out of aluminum:

Ford Plastickey is the direct result of years of research. Our research and development team determined that our trucks aren't worth stealing; and putting complicated locks in our vehicles was a big headache for everyone. The new FORD PLASTICKEY satisfies the driver's "hand-to-ignition" habit. Never again will our drivers have to shell out DOZENS, or even HUNDREDS of dollars for a replacement key! The FORD PLASTICKEY will be stocked nation-wide at well-known Dollar Tree and Dollar General retail establishments! Made out of DURABLE and NONBIODEGRADABLE polyethylene and the finest lead paint we could source from China, you can rest assured our new Ford Plastickey will withstand the elements for years to come! We've cut costs and fired our entire security engineering department so we can pass the savings on to YOU!
