Can't find a replacement

Postby Sl1mp1ck1nz » 17 Jul 2017 15:38

So I'm an amateur locksmith that works in my family's restaurant and the front door has an Adam's rite commercial mortise with a schlage cylinder with a broken core that needs to be replaced but when I take out the cylinder it has two wings that fit into notches in the Adam's rite lock set...I have looked and looked but can't find a replacement anywhere, any help?

A photograph would probably be very helpful for us, could we see what you mean by "two wings" ?

Thanks

A pic would be most helpful. I have half a dozen schlage mortise cores at home, but I won't know if any match yours with no pic!

I dont remember the actual name brand but you are describing a very low cost cylinder and lock. The cylinder has two tabs that will fit into slots in the lock. The cylinder is then rotated so it cant fall out and the set screw is tightened to prevent rotation. These usually have a plastic trim ring. The lock may be threaded and if so, the cylinder can be replaced with any threaded cylinder with the AdamRite cam and an appropriately sized trim ring.
Nothing is foolproof to a talented fool. Wisdom is not just in determining how to do something, but also includes determining whether it should be done at all.

^ exactly what Raymond said.
Just check to see if your AR bolt is threaded & you can use any Mortise cylinder. Just make sure it has Cylinder set screws
