Schlage storeroom door knob lock

Postby HPW1 » 16 Apr 2020 20:17

Apartment community gates use Schlage commercial storeroom door knob locks with Medeco cylinders. Exterior knobs are fixed and a key is used to turn the cylinder and gain entrance. The interior knob is not keyed and the knob turns freely to exit the property. Is there an option to retain this storeroom function and add a second cylinder to the inside knob? The idea is to use the knob or just a key to turn the lock and exit. The second Medeco cylinder would have tumblers removed to prevent locking in residents

There is no option to change over your storeroom function in order to get out of buying an Asylum lock, which is a knob/lever that has a key on both sides--I stock these in my shop but have only used them for commercial doors exiting onto the roof of a building

Be very careful with what you are attempting. If these gates are in the path of egress for life safety, you could endanger peoples lives.

It might be best to consult a professional before you proceed.
