Help with Mortise Lock

Hi, I took apart my mortise lock to clean it and assembled it back up but for the life of me can’t remember where the spring in the photo goes. As of right now, the handle and latch work but the deadbolt won’t extend all the way. Since the spring is not installed, I’m assuming it’s the culprit. I have no model number or brand name on the lock. I'm located in California.

Thank you for your time. :D

Without being able to turn the assembly around and peek here and there it would be difficult. I'd guess the spring wraps around the post to the rear of the bolt and one part pushes the bolt and the other pushes against something more solid.

Look around for witness marks. Those are wear marks from where the spring has been wrapped around something or pushing against something.

I wanna say the loud, funny words too

Generally speaking I would expect that spring to go around the post just to the rear of the mortise cylinder and connect with the hub (has a square hole in it) then good luck getting the cover back onto your mortise lock. Don't forget to lubricate the lock

Hi, I found this diagram that is of very similar design.
I put a red arrow pointing to the suspect spring in which you are inquiring. It should fit somewhere similar to the picture

Ya good call on that ! I looked at his pic and thought that was really the only place that looked like it could go. Usually the hub has some sort of spring configuration for detent.
Out of hundreds upon hundreds of totally different mortise designs, I was pretty shocked I actually found a similar diagram lol.
