Mystery Cylinder Lock – How Can I Remove It

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to remove this cylinder lock from my own door, but it isn’t a standard Euro-profile cylinder. There is no obvious retaining screw on the edge of the door, so the usual removal method doesn’t apply.

I’ve attached several photos showing the lock and the surrounding hardware. Can anyone identify this type of cylinder or locking mechanism? Is there a particular trick, hidden fastener, or non-destructive removal method I may be overlooking?

I’d especially appreciate step-by-step advice on removing the cylinder without damaging the door or fittings. If a special tool is required, please let me know what I should look for.

On the edge of the door, remove the long plate, held on by the two screws. Under the plate, in line with the lock cylinder, there should be a retaining screw. Loosening the screw may allow you to unscrew the lock cylinder. Under all that paint, what brand is the lock?

Thanks for the reply, but no: there is no screw in the faceplate, unlike with a Euro-profile cylinder. The faceplate is attached to the entire lock mechanism, so I can't remove it. I read somewhere that there should be a small hole in the lock case right next to the cylinder, but that isn't the case with this lock. I tried positioning the keys in various ways on both sides, hoping to hear a 'click' indicating it had unlocked. But no—I didn't even feel any resistance suggesting I was on the right track. I even tried pulling out the bolt (the part that locks the door into the frame), but that didn't work either. There is a tiny bit of movement between the cylinder and the lock case, so it isn't seized up. What other options do I have?

Raymond is correct. The face plate may be somewhat glued on by paint or age-related gook, but it does come off.
