Master lock padlock I've never seen before

Postby wvdeputy807 » 15 Sep 2017 15:44

I was given a master lock padlock, it looks like a 380D. It has the Z coating and is not stamped with the model anywhere. I have tried and tried to pick this lock. The person that gave it to me wished me luck in trying to pick it. I've tried SPP, raking, snap gun, klom electric pick etc. Well upon closer inspection of the key way there are pins that ride of the key edge as usual but also there are two pins that look to ride on the spine of the key. Has anyone seen a master lock like this before, can you identify it and give me any information regarding it. Also any certain picking techniques?? Any help would be greatful.

I'm going to guess that the best thing you could do would be to post some pictures from a few different angles and include a good picture of the keyway.

It looks like the lock has already been picked, and that the plug is 180 degrees rotated. The two pins at the bottom of the keyway look like the driver pins.

To confirm this, try using your pick to push down the pins at the bottom of the keyway - what you are calling the spine. Do they move down under spring tension?

Now check the matching key pins directly opposite the pins at the bottom. Do they move under spring tension? Not asking if they move at all, but if you can feel the springs.

I was referring to the spine of the key. Maybe that was a wrong descriptive lol. Yes the pins at the bottom of the key way move under spring tension there are two of them and the pins at the top of the keyway, only two move under spring tension.

Looks spray painted, not a factory finish. Just a No.3 padlock or very close to it.

Why would there be pins in the bottom of the key way then?

There arent, the plug has been rotated 180 degrees in its hole. See this post it explains the current state of your lock and how to reset it.

it happens during picking. I think GWiens2001 mentioned this up above.

That's factory, it's called the rust oleum finish.

I didn't think the Master padlock plug could be rotated 180.

Don’t master locks only rotate 1/4 turn? How did a non-removable core end up 180 degrees rotated when it will only allow 90 degrees of rotation, even with the key?

Think one I came across had a bypass tool used. Can't go into more details in the open forum.
