Not old, but at least it looked old from all the rust..Need help identifying what kind of lock this is.
It looks like a Disc Lock to me but I need you guys to help confirm it as I'm still a total beginner in lockpicking (still waiting for my lock pick set to be delivered to be from dx.com)

Also..what could possibly cause all the rust??? The place I found this lock in my garage is in perfectly dry condition.

It is indeed a Disk Detainer lock. The key way looks very similar to the disc detainer lock from this thread.

However this youtube video confirms it.

Where are you located that you have a large disc detainer padlock in the garge?

Gordon
Just when you finally think you have learned it all, that is when you learn that you don't know anything yet.

So confirmed it's disc detainer lock..Thanks!
Now at least I know I have a lock to practice on when I reached that level, which I don't think I'm getting there anytime soon

I was told it was used to lock the gates when we haven't changed to electric gate..
I've seen a few in other places as well used to lock the grills for door and I always wonder how were these locks even opened as I've never seen any key that large to turn the keyway, until I found this forum and got interested with lockpicking.
I'm from Malaysia btw.

Bosnian Bill made a video opening some Chinese disc detainer locks just using a screw driver, as most of them have a severe design flaw (don't know if it's relevant to you, but I thought it was quite interesting):

Does it get cold at night on occasion where you are? If the temperature swings back and forth, the lock can get cold. Later, when the air warms up and becomes more humid, water will condensate on the cold metal.

I just removed a relatively new (<5 years old) lock where the screws on the *inside* of the door were nearly rusted in place. All it took was the cold metal causing water to condense (well, that and cheap metal that was corrosion prone...)

Give it a nice bath in a rust solvent and have fun with it. I want a disc detainer lock so I can pick those. -_- I'm still a newb till this day.
