Segal Padlock

I found this at a flea market today and bought it. It didn't come with a key. I don't know anything about these things and I can't find much about them online either.

The body appears to be some sort of copper alloy, not brass like others I've seen. It could just be copper colored because it kind of has a pewter look to it. The cylinder has "EDGE' stamped into it, although it looks like each letter was stamped individually as the spacing is inconsistent between each letter.

Can anyone tell me anything about this thing? It's a cool looking lock!

Thats a really nice score. It looks like it uses the SE1 keyway which is fairly popular and should be easy to find blanks for. I didn't think EDGE would return anything because its a word and it's all letters. Seemed more like it would be a model or something like that. Go figure, it actually returned a single result as a Segal 4 pin lock with bitting 2203 bow to tip. If you want to you can find yourself some SE1 blanks and impression a key or have a key cut to code. Other than that I can't tell you much more about the specific lock. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks Divinorum. That's good info to have. I am just starting with impressioning and have made friends with a local locksmith so I can probably get the blanks and give it a try.

I'm surprised at how pristine this lock seems to be. I found the same lock in a Segal catalog from 1929. I can't imagine this lock is anywhere near that old but I can't really find any information beyond what I found in the catalog. It appears to be a Segal No. 600 lock. Either way I feel like I got a good deal, so I'm happy. If I do happen to impression a key I'll certainly post it here.
