Hello!

I'm new to this site and to lock picking. I've been fascinated by the whole trade of lock picking and making of both keys and locks since I was child... Anyway, so recently I got a new desk and it's really old! I do not have a key for it and I wanted to be able to lock and unlock it. I decided it was a good time to learn lock picking, but after a lot of searching, I only found instructions on how to pick a modern lock...

Anyway, it would be really wonderful if there was a way I could make a key-sort-of-thing to use for both locking and unlocking the desk drawers without spending a lot of money (I'm a cheap person :? )

Anywho, here's the pictures:

if those don't work:

oh and also I couldn't find any brand names or anything on the lock or desk... :/

You may get better mileage with that lock by visiting http://www.antique-locks.com forum. this isn't a lock most of us normally work on.

Some of our locksmiths or perhaps our UK members may be able to help you with tips for making some wires that might work, but as you found, most internet instructions are for pin tumbler locks.

best of luck

In your lower pic, the keyhole looks filled-in?
I have a key, in my shop that fits most of these locks

If you find keys at a household/rummage sale that have a hole drilled down the post and the bit fits into the lock, try fiddling it right and left (don't crank it hard). It may work, but if it comes to a dead stop it means something has to be filed away.

This would be a bit and barrel key, fairly common blank to get as a blank
If you find one and it goes in and turns part way, you may have to smoke the key
With a candle, try the hey again, this will give you whiteness marks and you will
Need to file at the marks a little and repeat until the lock opens

I agree - get the doc to check out your eyes. Does not look filled in to me.
