Help needed multipoint lock

Postby hdp160 » 30 Mar 2016 10:37

Hi everyone, I've been a member here since 2010, and I've had lots of fun picking locks of various types usually obtained from car boot, jumble and reclamation sales etc.

Now I REALLY need help personally.

My own front door UPVC multipoint lock mechanism has failed.............
The door is in the locked position.
Yhe euro lock cylinder operates OK.( but can't be removed without breaking because the retaining screw is obviously not visible.)
The handle won't move down to draw the multipoint locking bolts back and flops loosely upward when lifted.

I have searched the web but cannot find a way of releasing the multipoint bolts other than by [REDACTED].

Al this seems destructive, is there a a solution?

If I’m treading on thin ice I'd be more than happy to exchange photos and further details via pm.

REALLY hope there is a workaround for this other than having the door replaced.

Would you mind posting a photo of the area where the lock cylinder is, and then a zoomed out wide photo of the entire door and frame?
(upload pics to http://imgur.com/ and paste the links or make them into [img] tags for inline photos.

Can you access that particular door from both sides if you needed to work on either side?

Thank you

Not a problem I'll take pictures when I get home, and yes access to both sides.

Can't help on the lock, but if you add the letters L, M or S after the picture's name in the link it resizes to large, medium or small.

instead of

should make that one giant photo better fitted.

Have you removed the door furniture (handle hardware) to inspect the handle spindle and hub?

Sometimes spindles or the lock hub strips and the handle flops about.

Apologies if your pictures show this, I'm out and about and links don't work in my browser since the last iOS update.

Yes I have removed both handles inside and out everything is ok with the square bar.

Thanks

I'm no expert on uPVC multi-point locks, but could you try something like putting the handle back on the square shaft and pressing and holding it while you turn the key around and around in hopes that something inside the gearbox catches and releases? perhaps try that from both sides, and also push the door from the inside so it is fully shut in case there is some drag in the bolts that are stopping them from moving, and as you push on the door, then turn the key and try to push the handle down to see if the bolts retract into the door?

Thanks for the ideas, I tried these manoeuvres a few hours ago before searching the web (and here obviously).

The bolts are well and truly engaged.

Earlier I watched one particular youtube sales video made by a company who are based about 350 miles from me. They claimed they can open these multipoint locks without resorting to force.

I'm wondering if they [REDACTED}?

There's only one reasonable solution. burn that house down, and move to another house.

I'll PM you an idea I have that would be considered bypass.
