Help with this lock and they key that might go with it.

So from the subject I really need help with this lock, on an old piggy bank that I have.

Lost the key for the piggy bank and need to know the name of key or things I can use that can help me unlock this. Some info about the lock, is that the middle gray part is not part of the lock, its there I guess to fool people or add an some protection so someone doesn't just use a coin to open it I guess (No idea but I'm just assuming that's what its for). The key itself is suppose to go around that gray part and turn it so that it will open up.

If anyone knows what kind of key it is that would greatly help me in opening it.

Probably a warded lock (but could be a lever tumbler). Takes a flat key--there are a multitude of flat key blanks out there and finding the right blank is only the first step, it would then need to be fitted to the lock. Best course of action would be to take the item to a local locksmith shop.

Jacob,
I was imagining this style key, what do you think? Click pic if it cuts off key...

Could be. I have never seen a lock (that is riveted in place) where the key extends beyond the face of the lock. Given that it is probably an inexpensive item and apparently uses a double-sided key, that would point to it being a warded lock?

Most likely a warded lock. Can not see them using a lever lock in a piggy-bank (actual pig shaped) lock. It could happen, but I'd go with warded.

Any locksmith should be able to make a key for that in short order.

I love piggy banks and have a small collection. I'd like to see pictures of the other sides of your piggy.

Thanks :)

I am going to bet on warded lock as well. I had one very similar when I was younger and it had a key that looked very similar to a warded "pick" tryout key. The one that looks like a little hat at the tip.
