Can you tell me anything about this old Padlock?

Postby MrDeadpool » 9 Mar 2022 20:12

My father passed away Last year from Covid-19 and in cleaning out his garage I found this old lock
he was in the Navy in the late 50's and I wondered if this was a lock he had then?

any info you can tell me about it, Date, it is a good lock so on.

it is from that era. Ilco made lots of padlocks for the government.

so this could have been for his foot locker?

I gave it to a local Locksmith to try to make a key, it took him 8 months to pick it. he said it was one of the
hardest locks to pick he ever come across, but was not able to tell me more about it. So it's nice that I have
a key for it. but I wanted to know more about it.

I think it goes well with my old gun coffee table.
it's an old WWII Mosin Nagant crate I made into a table

Nice old padlock! You had a key made and brought it back to service. Well done.
I also like the coffee table.

Cheers :)

The logo on your padlock belongs to the US Ordnance Corps https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ordnance_Corps_(United_States_Army), did your father's work for the Navy ever cross paths with that department?

That's a very cool padlock and I love the coffee table. It also represents something tangible you can hold in your hand and remember your father by, and that makes it even more special.

Sorry for your loss, it's been a hard time for so many families.

Thank you for sharing with us, we love old locks, and military locks as well!
