5" Backset Latch Replacements

Postby magixx256 » 12 Apr 2022 16:46

I'm trying to update my front door lock with something easier to use, in this case the Eufy Touch which has key and other unlock options.
However, I didn't do enough research on what I currently had and it turns out I have an old style 5" backset latch while the Eufy one comes with only a 2"3/8 - 2"3/4 latch.
The Eufy latch also has it's hole on the bottom which takes 90 degrees to un/lock.
Is there any chance of me finding a compatible (hole on bottom, 90 degree turn) 5" backset for this new lock and if so what is something I can order?
Does anyone do custom backset latches?
I don't think replacing the door is an option and something like the August lock doesn't have code/fingerprint options which I find more conventient.

Here are some pictures of the new and old https://imgur.com/gallery/s5ciqlw

So far I've found some options but they all seem like a gamble since I don't know if they will fit or if they will turn enough.

I like the Schlage, it doesn't turn as far to unlock though as your shorter latch does, which can be a problem for some locks--better buy it from someone who accepts returns. The Schlage latch, which you show twice, will not work with Schlage keyless locks, so it may not work for you. Your only other choice, the first latch has smaller mounting holes than the latch you are trying to match as it was designed to be used with 10/32 screws.

Are you aware that your old lock, the Schlage A-series lock now costs almost $200?

I took apart two of those knob locks on Monday, cleaned & greased them & they'll probably work longer than I will live

Good luck with your new toy toy. Around here (Arizona) you can count on the batteries leaking & ruining the lock in the first few years. I have clients pay me to take their digital locks off & replace them with the old-style lock they had previously all the time
