Help identifying antique padlock

Postby roberdjp » 7 May 2022 10:46

My grandfather died and had this padlock in his possession. It doesn't appear to have any markings on it, and I know nothing about this topic. Does anybody have any idea what this might be or how to find out?

Appears to be a James H. McWilliams of New York, Scandinavian style padlock.

Here is the patent for it

In the lock collector world, they are often called Scandi padlocks (short for Scandinavian, the part of the world where this type of style originated)

Here are some photos of McWilliams padlocks and some more history: http://antique-padlocks.com/scandi_mcwilliams_01.htm
