Forgot how to dial the combination on that old safe? Think you got the right numbers but the handle is stuck? What safe should you buy? Ask your safe questions here!

Need help with a safe

Postby evgenik79 » 29 Nov 2014 16:03

I've been asked by my parents, who are currently overseas, to retrieve an item from one of the two safes located in their home. The safe uses a key and a dial combination. I have the keys and combinations to both safes and I'm not sure which one is which. One of the safes uses a three-number combination, the other - a four number combination. The problem is, that neither of the combinations have worked on either safe, so I'm assuming that I'm doing something wrong in using the dials. I'm unable to reach my parents by phone to clarify and the matter is somewhat urgent. Here's a photo of the safe that I need to open:

Is anyone familiar with this type of safe? If so, I have just a few general questions:
1. Does it use a three-number or a four-number combination?
2. Do I start entering the combination by spinning the first number to the left or to the right?
3. Does it use the standard dial procedure - i.e., four turns to the left/right, stopping on the first number; three turns to the right/left, stopping on the second number; two turns to the left/right, stopping on the third number; one turn to the right/left until it clicks open (add one more turn for each sequence in case of a four-number combination)? Or is there some non-standard trick to this particular safe?
4. Do I turn the key only after the dial clicks open (supposedly I'll be able to tell by the sound) or do I have to have it turned somehow while turning the dial?

Please help.

Try this:

Step 1. turn Right aligning the 1st number the 4th time it comes to the opening index

Step 2. turn Left aligning the 2nd number the 3rd time it comes to the opening index

Step 3. turn Right aligning the 3rd number the 2nd time it comes to the opening index

Step 4. turn Left, and aligning 4th number the 1st time it comes to the opening index

Step 5. Insert key and turn clockwise until it stops, then pull the handle to open safe door, if there is no handle, use the key as a handle and pull on the key once it has finished turning. If the first key doesnt turn at all, insert the other key and try turning it.

Hope this helps,

Use both combos (known) on the safe you have pictured with the key. There is no right to retract. Just leave the last number as is and turn the key.

also try dialing the combo from left and right.. on most locks this does not matter. But this one may not work one way, but may the other.

Hope you get it open!
