ID old Mosler from SN ?

Forgot how to dial the combination on that old safe? Think you got the right numbers but the handle is stuck? What safe should you buy? Ask your safe questions here!

ID old Mosler from SN ?

Postby CaptainMitch » 20 Apr 2021 6:59

I am considering an old Mosler and having read a number of short articles online indicating that possibly
some models were to be avoided I am seeking some advice.

I wonder if someone could advise me based on the model number. The safe is being offered by a reputable Safe and Lock dealer who says he previously disassembled parts, inspected and lubricated. This safe has not been drilled or repaired.
Manufactured 1969.
Model 1612 CL Lock Model CF302

A 1612 from the 50s of which I have seen photos didn't look that sturdy. Do you have photos of this safe? If you are looking for a burglary safe in the US, then I suggest looking for TL rated safes. We had in another forum someone who looked for a gun safe and reviewed a few vintage safes. In the end he bought a really big TL-15 or TL-30 rated Mosler plate safe. Not easy to move, but extremely sturdy and a capacity of supplies for a full army.

Thank you for taking the time to help.

The safe in question was manufactured in 1969.
I have several photos but unable to make sense of instructions to attach photos.
There is a tag on the back side that indicates Model number is 12, SN 20690-17
There are two metal drawers inside affixed to the top, one drawer has a key lock (key present).

Sale price is $350 cash. Seller states it is also fire rated.
Based on these notes, is there anything further to your comments ?
If this safe isn't secure then it doesn't suit our need.
Again, thank you for your comments.
