Old Adesco safe

Postby Jove » 28 Jul 2021 22:37

Hello everybody!

I recently procured the contents of an old garage which included two safes.

Unfortunately this is not a call for help to open the safes --they are already open. Open and locked, with no keys or combos in sight.

I'm hoping for help identifying these safes and hopefully finding some information on how to reset the combo. Both safes have access panels on the inside of the door, I dont know if that helps at all.

The first safe is an Adesco Aida Model SR-607.
The 2nd is a Saf-d-posit "the first digital push button safe for home or office"

Can anyone help? Thank you

Your local locksmith shop (if you message me or post here which city/state your are from, I can send you the name of a reputable shop) could more than likely impression working keys for both safes, and reset the combination on the mechanical dial to whatever you'd like, and put some fresh batteries in the digital one and figure out how to set the PIN. If you can bring them to the local shop, it would be cheaper for them to work on them than to have them come out and pay for a service call. I know everyone is all about DIY and youtube, but for something like making a key for one of these safes, probably not something you'll be able to do at home unless you are very handy.

These are what are known as "Import" safes where they are made somewhere like Korea, are imported to the US, and one of a few companies slaps their label on it and it is sold as a lower tier safe at a locksmith shop or department store.

Also, some of these you need to insert key and turn it AND dial the combination in order to unlock it, while some will open with either just the key or just the combination. Not sure how yours are set up, but you can figure that out by removing the covers on the inside of the door.

You can probably figure out the combination of the mechanical dial just by looking at the wheels lining up as you turn the dial, this will also teach you the dialing order of how many revolutions you need to turn the dial and in which direction.

Maybe another member here will be familiar with these vintage safes..

I am down in sunny San Diego CA (lemon grove).

Dont be too jealous, we just paid north of a half million dollars for a 2 bed room/1bath house and a garage full of stuff! You certainly pay for the weather here.

GRAH is a good place to business with. Used to work with them years ago on projects.
