Victor safe, Right first or left?

Forgot how to dial the combination on that old safe? Think you got the right numbers but the handle is stuck? What safe should you buy? Ask your safe questions here!

Ahoy All! Glad I stumbled in here during my research today. I've been all over the net trying to get the tidbits on my old safe. I inherited this in 1995 after my Grandfather passed.
I discovered it was a Victor and I believe it's a *No. 3 Victor Safe* (judging from the illustration photos and dimensions listed from archive pages of a Victor catalog I found.. ca.1891). However, my hinges are slightly different and the last printed patent date on the inside of the door is Oct. 2, `88. So, I'm assuming my safe's date of Birth is between Oct. 1888 and Jan. 21, 1889. ??

If anyone knows more about it--I'd greatly appreciate!

Aaaanyway, you may find THIS of interest, my safe opens with only 2 numbers and starting Right first. I spin the tumbler about three-four times going Right, stop on my first digit, then left (no full turn) to my second digit, and finally right again (less than a 1/4 turn)..pins slide in-OPEN. Works every time. Is this odd?
Hope someone finds interest in this and maybe help me gather more info! I love this thing, use it and appreciate it. Thanks! :D

The combination was set in such a way that the numbers line up. You can set it so it opens with only one number. Or, if you don't set it up correctly, no combination will open it. :D

I like your radio collection!
