Have OLD safe looking for information and possibly sell it

Postby Bigdee57 » 10 Aug 2022 14:26

I have acquired a old safe, I think maybe 80 years old or more. I'm looking for any place to find some information on it. I've looked absolutely everywhere and can't find anything about it except for somebody who wanted to make a key for a safe just like it on this forum, or should I say this website. It's an old model c double door in a floor safe from a company in Los Angeles it's no longer in existence I believe. I can't find anything at all about the safe or even pictures of another safe that's the same model it's like it never existed but it was very much real. If anybody can help me out with any information on this company or safe or how old it is that you greatly appreciative of that information. I'm also looking to sell the safe but trying to find a good jumping off price and it takes information for that. I live in California and since the thing weighs probably 300 pounds or more having it shipped someplace is almost out of the question unless somebody's going to pay shipping so eBay is really not a place I can sell it at basically as far as you're willing to drive to come pick it up I believe will be the clientele that I'm reaching for. So everybody enjoy the pictures and if anyone has any information you can help me out with I'd appreciate it, I hope everybody enjoys their day.

There is no price list of old safes. Look at ebay and craig's list for similar safes. You have then a rough idea. With safes you need a local buyer. To have one needs luck. The more you are willing to wait the less luck you will need. Maybe there is someone in your area who needs just such a safe key floor safe and is willing to pay for it. Maybe there is no one interested in your area for the next year. So the value can be "a lot" or 0. My guess is, that "a lot" is not that much.

Thank you very much for replying to my post I think you have the right idea luckily now that I think about it that I live only 2 hours from Los Angeles. You gave me an idea to start posting in the Los Angeles craigslist in Los Angeles four runs and things like that where somebody might be interested cuz I can guarantee you Los Angeles is going to be the place that there might be somebody not my little town 2 hours away. I thank you very much for your response and your ideas.

Try Facebook Marketplace, people feel a lot mmore comfortable with it as Craigslist can be sketchy sometimes. There is also a Safe and Vault Collectors group on Facebook, post it there and mention where you are and how much you need to get for it and some collector may buy it from you.

As for price, it is very subjective, amd since this isn't a square door safe with a big chome dial and handle like in old timey cowboy or heist movies, there will be less folks willing to offer a lot of money for it.

If I saw it on craigslist, I would expect the seller to ask for $175 to $200, but I personally would not offer more than $100 for. I know that's probably not what you were hoping to hear, but you might find person who loves Los Angeles history and would give you $250 for it.

You could approach a gas station owner as these are often used in the back office to store cash.

Good luck,
