I tried again today to take off the I side cover on the door. It seems to be stock to the lining material (concrete?) and though I could get the edges of the sheet metal lifted from the sides, the center, right there at the lock, isn’t letting go.
I couldn’t see any of the lock housing, at all. It appears to be encased in whatever that material is. With asbestos in mind, I didn’t mess around with it other than just peeking inside. I did take a couple more pictures of the lock wheels /gates.

I also got another photo of the slots that the bars engage. I’m leaning towards just cleaning off the rust, filling holes and just painting it. I’ll probably use this one from now on. I can see where it did have very ornate striping and borders once upon a time; but given the fact that I can’t find any indication of a manufacturer, and you folks had some ideas about who might have made it, I don’t think I’d worth a whole lot of money and time for complete restoration. (It’s pretty rough on top and the back.

I can’t thank you all enough. You’ve helped me discover a new and fascinating hobby.
I’ll keep searching for clues and other items like this.
